“Ausgerechnet Freitag der Dreizehnte” — Weißensee Gallery

This week is all in the name of art. After Marcus’ rather elaborate and specific article about the UdK Rundgang — and of course, his magg-nificent pictures as always — I decided to actually share my opinion on the Weißensee exhibition.

First of all, I had no expectations. After the liberating chaos and vast possibilities at the Universität der Künste I was prepared to see everything. Turns out: those kids at Weißensee who have finally finished their Diploma do have something to show for! The location — the corner house on Oranienplatz which used to be a shopping mall — was chosen perfectly to put the artwork on display. And artwork it is: from the weirdest installations to the most critical and mesmerizing paintings, a great variety on five levels of artsy goodness.

If you can make the time, pay the exhibition a visit. It’s definitely worth your busyness. The pictures should only give you a slight impression of what to expect, but in no way do they cover up even a teensy bit of what is offered in Kreuzberg. Also, remember: whenever we take pictures of art, we don’t mean to steal the intended form of display. We just want to say: this is what we like, but you will never understand it if you don’t go and see it for yourself!
