I did not grew up in this city. My history with Berlin just started a couple of years ago but of course I feel the cultural heritage of all the places I hang out now in 2012. I wanna know how it felt to live here back in days. I wanna know what my Berlin friends talk about when they talk about growing up in 80s & 90s Prenzlauer Berg. How did it feel when my dad hung out in old Linienstr. underground Jazzclubs? I wanna know because this history is what my Berlin is based on.
Now I found this amazing documentary by Petra Tschörtner († 2012) about Berlin Prenzlauer Berg in 1990. With much love to simple details she shows the everyday life in the Eberswalder Str. area in the last days before the monetary union. I think you will recognize a lot of places like Prater or Kastanienallee but much more you will hear some great statements which show the mindset of the most different people in the Kiez.
For me this documentary is something I’d like our FindingBerlin project to be in the future. A contemporary document about a distinct moment in time.
