Tony Hawk & NERD

One of the bonuses of living in the coolest capital of the world is not being shunned by the entertainment industry. Wait, I mean the US entertainment industry, which — Bollywood aside — is pretty much the only mentionworthy. So while the rest of Germany is deserted of any cool events, Berlin gets the best there’s to have. Like Tony Hawk. And NERD. I mean, NERD?

We’ve talked about Fashion Week — the Bright Trade Show, having moved from Frankfurt to Berlin this year, is making a big bald jump into the Hauptstadt skate scene by bringing Skateboard P himself and Tony Motherfucking Hawk to the Max Schmeling Halle. Have to say, it was as decent as possible. Stoked to see so many skater kids, too, even though I had the feeling they didn’t actually bother to promote the event.

Anyway: I love Pharell. I love Tony Hawk. It felt like jumping back into my childhood, remembering all the nice stunts we did on our skateboards in the suburbs, where nothing else was to do. I keep thinking: had my parents raised us in a big city — would we be where we are today? Would I long for the big city like I do right now, would I ever have appreciated what this world has to offer? I’m not sure why this enters my mind while I’m standing in the rows waiting for NERD to make their appearance, but it leaves a little melancholy in my stomach. That, and seeing Tony Hawk still rocking it like he was in his twenties. And if you asked me, he could’ve left his friends back home: nobody there who could’ve risen out of this mans gigantic shadow.

By the way, I would’ve loved to make a video, but I lack the hardware. So unless you’re willing to sponsor my new found love for visual stuff, you’ll have to bear with the crappy night shots (my efforts to make an interesting animated gif were for nothing).
